Two technologies made for bitcoin and ethereum are uniting.

A video demo presented by ETH Zurich expert Arthur Gervais, displays how ethereum wallets might function with something like Lightning Network.

Lightning Network is a payments protocol that was initially made to augment bitcoin.

It’s a noteworthy step, as off-chain payments systems have been considered as scaling solutions for blockchains such as ethereum.

The wallets are still not ready for public use.

However, the demo from Gervais’ project called Liquidity Network, shows the level of interest from the community.

To users, the wallet functions like other ethereum wallets, in that it allows users to send and receive ether.

But looking closely, the wallet is more complex, permitting users to link to so-called “hubs” if they can’t connect immediately.

In the demo, Gervais shows one user depositing 100 wei (a tiny division of ether) into a hub.

Since the connection can send payments to any other user connected to the same hub, Gervais sent 50 wei payments to one user and 30 wei to another.

Liquidity Network is working on an off-chain network for ethereum, that could provide an alternative to the developmental network, Raiden.

However, Liquidity uses slightly diverse technology taken after the Revive payment channel.

Revive is a model first proposed by the Liquidity Network founders in a white paper back in September.
